Last Will and Testament of Edward MAJOR, died 1694
| In the name of God Amen I Edward MAJOR of Stowe Parva also Stowe cum ??? ??? in the County of Northants being of sound and perfect memory praised for God for this and I do make this my last will and testament in form following. I resign my soul into ye merciful hand of Almighty God my Creator assuredly hoping through the merits of my Blessed Saviour I obtain redemption of all my sins. And my body I submit to ye Earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried at and by the discretion of my Executors I hereinafter name. And as for the goods and effects such ye Lord hath lent me I freely give and bequeath as follows. I give unto Dorothy MAJOR my wife the interest of four score pounds yearly to help maintain her during her life and our cow and our ??? sheep as they are branded on my flock and Brass kettles, four old coffers, a brass pan, a ??? the Bedhead and furniture to it wherein she now bides with all ye linen, I ??? possessed of and ye ??? of all others my household goods not them named before, for the ??? of her natural life and five pounds out of ye said four score pounds I freely give her to be disposed of as she shall direct at her death. I give to my son Nicholas MAJOR the sum of ten pounds to be paid to him within one month after my decease. ??? he finds sufficient security to my ??? ??? pay ??? ??? those ten pounds after ye ??? of ??? and unto Dorothy MAJOR my said wife during her life and if he refuse this then I desire my Executor to forebear ye payment of ye said ten pounds to him until and after the death of my said wife . I give unto Edward Major eldest son of ye said Nicholas MAJOR ye sum of five pounds and last brass porridge pot I have of 3 and the sum of five pounds to John MAJOR second son of ye said Nicholas MAJOR and to Thomas and Nicholas MAJOR third and fourth son's of ye said Nicholas I give the sum of forty shillings to each of them and I give twenty shillings to Sarah his daughter. I give unto Samuel MAJOR my son the sum of four pounds and to his daughter Ellen MAJOR the sum of five pounds and the best brass porridge pot of ye 3 I have. And likewise I give unto my grand-daughter Alice MAJOR daughter of my said son Samuel the sum of five pounds to her, equal parted between them five. I give to each of ye said 3 children ten lambs apiece and I give a lamb apiece to ye 3 youngest children of my son Nicholas I give and bequeath unto Edward MAJOR my 3rd son the sum of two pounds ten shillings and the sum of five pounds unto Ellen MAJOR his daughter. ??? said ??? I desire may be paid to my respective children and grandchildren at their respective ages of twenty one and if my wife Dorothy before them died I give unto Mary Spatcher the daughter of Richard Spatcher of Silson the sum of ten shillings and the middle most brass porridge pot of the 3. I give unto my sister Susanna HEARN and Mary ??? and Agnes SMITH five shillings apiece and to each of their children twelve pence apiece all my said last mentioned sums I desire may be paid within ??? ??? decease of my wife Dorothy ends. Lastly, I document my good family viz Robert Hearn, Mr Robert Capell and Richard SMITH of Stowe aforesaid that they will take upon them the trouble ??? my will Executed and I do hereby appoint and nominate them the said Robert Hearn and Robert Capell and Richard SMITH to be joint Executors of this my last will and testament revoking all other and former Wills by me at any time formerly made and I do give my said Executors full power to act and do everything contained herein with full allowances for all the charges and expenses they shall or may at any time ??? at in ye Execution and performance of this my last Will and Testament. And after this my will is performed as is herein expressed and all ye expenses defrayed if there ??? over plus money in ye hands of my said Executors I give and bequeath it to be equally divided between my son Nicholas and his children. In Witness whereof I have hereinafter I have set my hand and seal this tenth day of March in the year of our Lord God 1693. I likewise give my Box I now use to Ellen MAJOR ye daughter of Sam MAJOR after ye death of my wife. |
