For some years, I have had the slightly unusual hobby of collecting old brass SAFE PLATES.Here are a couple of examples from my collection of about 20 plates - click on the image for a better view. They are very difficult to find and I have spent many hours wandering around antique fairs and car boot sales in pursuit of more. Currently in the collection, I have plates from:- Chubb & Sons
- Milner
- Whitfield
- Ratner
- J Grove & Son
- W H Wakefield & Co
- Holdfast
- Vulcan Safe Co
- G O Talbot & Co
- C H Whittingham & Co
- Hobbs & Co
- E Lumby & Son
- Tanns
I have never heard of anyone else with hobby to exchange information with neither have I ever seen it mentioned in hobby magazines. So if any out there has a similiar interest, please send me an email. The plate I would REALLY like to get hold of is the one pictured here from Thomas Perry & Son of Bilston, Staffs. It was recovered from the bottom of the Atlantic where it adorned the safe in the Purser's Office on board the ill-fated RMS TITANIC.
