Meeting Summary
11 Sep 06

Parish Council Meeting Summaries are published as soon as possible after the meeting.
However, they are INFORMAL and must await approval at the next Parish Council meeting -
when they will be published as APPROVED MINUTES.

The below is a summary of the key decisions of our Parish Council at the above meeting(s).....
  • As existing dog-waste bin was filling up too quickly, a larger bin has been ordered Suggestions please for new location for the old smaller bin once the new one is in place.

  • It was agreed to fund the publication of a booklet for Remembrance Day based upon Alan Moore’s research for ORACLE of the names on the Occold War Memorial. Clerk seeking to ascertain ownership of the War Memorial

  • No candidates for the vacancy for Parish Councillor. Co-option being considered.

  • School Reorganisation Review: recommend adoption of the two-tier system countywide

  • A letter had been received from Suffolk Constabulary acknowledging receipt of the Parish Council’s letter concerning dangerous driving in Occold, but with no comment other than that the matter is receiving attention.

  • Community Police Officer PC Jon Eaves updated OPC on the situation regarding dangerous driving in and around the village. One of the youths in question had recently been charged with offences relating to burglary and harassment; he was currently on bail and would be appearing in court again soon. Councillors were urged to contact the police, using 999 if necessary, to alert them if either of the two were seen driving in a dangerous manner.

  • Approval is likely for the extension of the Eye 30mph limit to Cranley Green.

  • Occold’s requested rural pavement scheme for Church Street is scheduled for 2009-2011 providing current funding levels are maintained.
  • Crime & Disorder leaflets are being distributed in the village.

  • The application for an abattoir on a nearby greenfield site was objected to, despite OPC not being a consultee. All Councillors were in agreement that the preferred location for such a development should be on an industrial site such as the old Eye airfield and that there was no justification for building it on a Greenfield site. NB C&K have since reapplied for airfield site.

  • SCC is to review the path hierarchy in the Public Rights of Way Network. The form was passed to the Footpath Warden to complete and return.

  • FP24 Redhouse Lane/Thorndon and the obstructing lagoon. The Clerk and the Footpath Warden are in consultation with SCC with the intention of resolving the outstanding issues and opening this route to Thorndon.

  • Mr Hull reported that bridges had been installed on his land for the newly instated footpath. One of them slopes into the bottom of a ditch, which seems to be an odd choice of location. Clerk was asked to ascertain, if possible, the total costs of the legal process and of installing the bridges etc incurred to open the footpath.

  • Street Lighting Maintenance and Energy for six months £338

  • Annual insurance policy through Suffolk ACRE. Renewal reduced to £280

  • Occold PCC reimbursed £310 for grass cutting in the cemetery

  • Poppy Wreath donation of £30 for Remembrance Day was agreed

  • The ditch along the B1077 between Greenacres and the lay-by is very constricted because of slippage caused by heavy vehicles. Drawn to the attention of SCC.
