The Tree House

The Tree House is the Society’s own research centre situated in the grounds of Orwell High School at Maidstone Road, Felixstowe, IP11 9ED.

It was built in 2001 from money donated by members, and furnished with money awarded by National Lottery funding.

It was formally opened on Saturday, 8th December 2001, by the Right Honourable John Gummer, MP, with the Mayor and Mayoress (Harry and Pam Dangerfield) of Felixstowe in attendance.

Open to members and visitors Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am - 12 noon and 2 pm - 4pm - subject to volunteers being available to man it. 

We suggest you telephone the Reading Room Supervisor on 01 394 270 688 before travelling for the latest information on opening times.

It is also open on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7:30pm with members on hand to advise and assist.

It has a library section, microfiche readers and computers with broadband Internet access. It also has instruction books, research guides, maps and genealogy related novels. This is a small sample of what is available on fiche and\or CD:

  • The 1988 International Genealogy Index, with updates, for the British Isles.
  • The General Register Index of Births, Marriages and Deaths, 1837-1920, for the United Kingdom.
  • The 1881 census for the United Kingdom.
  • The war dead of both World Wars.

    • Follow the A14 East to Felixstowe, at junction 60 (Dock Road Roundabout), remain in Left Hand Lane and continue straight over, (sign posted Felixstowe Town Centre A154), to next roundabout.
    • Move into Right Hand Lane, turn right, (sign posted Town Centre, North Felixstowe, Walton) into Garrison Lane and continue to Traffic lights
    • At lights move into Right Hand Lane, turn Right.
    • Continue for approximately 200 yards, at end of parade of shops (on Left) Bounty Fish Shop on corner, bear Left into Seaton Road. DO NOT GO IMMEDIATE LEFT INTO CHESTER ROAD
    • Continue up Seaton Road to roundabout, continue straight over into Entrance Drive of Orwell High School, at mini roundabout (top of Drive) turn Right and Park.
      With the School to your Right the Tree House is over to the extreme Left
